Tenth Law:  The Law of Polarity (also known as the Law of Opposites)

Polarity is a concept that cuts across every field of science. Although there are different definitions of polarity in chemistry, biology and physics, every definition shares certain features. Specifically, polarity is related to the idea of an inherent directionality in an object. That is, to exhibit polarity, an object must have some characteristic that differ with direction or position. Polarity usually implies the existence of two opposite directions with contrasting characteristics.

So, everything has an equal and opposite polarity. Light has darkness, male has female, positive has negative, predator has prey, ocean has land, north has south, east has west, love has hate, left has right, visible has invisible, top has bottom, hot has cold, up has down, good has bad, war has peace, inside has outside, problem has solution, faith has fear, rich has poor, life has death and so on.

Opposites are simply different manifestations of the same thing

However, these opposites have no absolutes, there is not one point where you can say one starts and the other begins, it is a scale range. There are two poles or opposites, the difference between the two extremes of one thing is called polarity. There are only degrees of difference between the extremes or poles, there are no absolutes. This laws states that, in fact, these opposites are simply different manifestations of the same thing!

You can also think of the Law of Polarity in this balanced and most interesting way; pleasure does not exist without pain and for those of you who are financially inclined, profit does not exist without loss (costs). Therefore, in the universe, which is your universe as you are most definitely part of it, one does not exist without the other – this is the law and Nature does not and cannot allow for anything other than equilibrium or balance. Mastery of the Law of Polarity requires that you learn how to maintain balance, focus, and detachment from the numerous daily distractions of the material world.

Why is the Law of Polarity so critical to your success and happiness?

Life has to have positives and negatives in it as the one cannot exist without the other and so, for every problem there is always a solution. That’s why Napoleon Hill writes in his book Think and Grow Rich that “Every adversity brings with it the seed of an equivalent opportunity” and why this appears in The Kybalion “Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.”

The upshot of this is that whenever something negative happens in your life, make it your business not to wallow in self-pity but to immediately look for and find the total opposite of it; find the good in the situation. Use your infinitely powerful mind to unlock the positive side and even though it may be extremely difficult for you to see the positive, it exists, and finding it is providing you with a powerful learning, growth and awareness experience. Mastering the Law of Opposites unlocks your innermost gift of mental alchemy.

Always remember this – in the absence of that which you are not, that which you are, is not

Be truly grateful for polar opposites as they make existence possible. If what you are not didn’t coexist with what you are, then what you are could not be. Therefore, do not condemn or criticize what you are not or what you don’t want. Let this Law remind you not to judge others. This is why the Law of Polarity is one of my favourite laws.

Polarities are interdependent pairs that need each other over time to maintain and gain performance. Since polarities are unavoidable, they are present in every individual, team, organization and nation. Many personal polarity pairs are immediately recognizable, such as home-work, activity-rest, intuition-facts, optimism-reality, caution-courage, self-other and structure-flexibility. Because polarities are interdependent, they need each other, and neither is sufficient alone; each side is accurate but incomplete without the other.

Polarity thinking, the practical activity which flows from applying this Law, is really about ‘both-and’ and invites a move away from ‘you are wrong and I am right’ thinking to ‘we are both right’. Use this kind of thinking to supplement your traditional problem solving (either-or) thinking and acting.

When you truly understand this law, you’ll realize that all of your failures were just learning experiences and that all your so called ‘failures in life’ were not failures, they were merely growth experiences meant to give you more wisdom and a greater awareness of the truth that you can achieve something so much bigger and better than what you originally has your sights set on. Understanding the law of opposites is going to make you unstoppable. You’ll realize that your failures contain the seeds of success and that your successes contain the seeds for failure. The choice is entirely up to you!

How do you apply the Law of Opposites for more success, happiness etc.?

People and Relationships:

Always use this law to look for the good in people and situations because what you focus on, you make bigger in your life as where your focus goes, your energy flows and your results come from. I’d encourage you to develop the powerful habit of constantly looking for the good in people and situations and when you find it, do not delay, tell the other person right away. People love compliments and the positive idea in your mind will make you feel really good and upbeat about life. Seeing the good in others and complementing them on this will make you feel incredibly good and the more you are able to see the good in others, the more you will be able to see all the good which lives within you.

Success and Business:

How do you know what success feels and looks like without knowing failure? You’ll never know what success is unless you experience some degree of failure. Some of you may be saying, “I’ve been experiencing failure for many years now, how on earth do I change this?” I’ll get to that shortly!

Now that you understand that everything has its opposite, you should be able to understand that everything already exists in your life. If you are experiencing failure in your business, then, according to the law of opposites, there must be something really awesome and successful about your business right now. One cannot exist without it’s opposite. I challenge you to rediscover “What’s good about my business right now?”

Changing failure into success is achieved by finding what is good about your situation right now. This involves putting your attention on the goodness in your life right now and what you want to attract. Human beings were created with free will or the ability to choose. To think whatever you want to think means truth, regardless of appearances. You can change any situation around by keeping your attention on its opposite.

If your business is in deep trouble right now, where are the seeds to the success you desire?

Don’t view it as a failing business, view your experience as learning about business and look for the good in the situation. I guarantee you that goodness and success are there. It has to be, according to the Law of Opposites.

Maybe you’re learning something that’s going to propel you on to much greater success or maybe you’re learning what not to do next time, or maybe things are happening this way because there is a much bigger opportunity coming your way. There is no way to tell but your thoughts become things and if you are thinking yourself into a disaster then that’s what you’re going to get.

This is why if you want to be massively successful in business you have to cultivate faith and the firm belief that this universe is setup for abundance and prosperity and that it is your birth-right to access, enjoy and receive all the abundance and prosperity on offer. Cultivate the belief that no matter what situation you are in, the universe is always working in your favour. Your only job is to get clear on what you want, to know why you want it, to ask for it, to take action to let the universe know you’re serious about it and to then expect it to happen.

This means keeping your attention, belief, and faith upon the success you desire; regardless of appearances and current circumstances. Even amidst abject failure, you have the choice to think about ‘success’ and to believe that you are worthy and deserving of it. Consciously choosing success directs all of your energies on how to succeed. When your energy is applied to thinking success, sooner or later you will experience the success you desire.

Health and Wellness:

If you’re experiencing poor fitness and sickness, then, by law, there has to be health and tremendous wellness in your life. The key is to find all the goodness present in your life right now. That goodness exists somewhere in your life. Again, I challenge you to find “What’s good about my life right now?” Reconnecting with all the positivity in your life (and it exists you just have to find it, connect with it and be grateful for it) is helping you to shift your vibration from a negative, self-destructing one to a positive, empowering one.

Let the Law of Opposites teach you that the moment you start putting blame on others, events, circumstances, even the economy and political leaders, you lose your power and that is how failure and misery will surely enter and dominate all aspects of your life! Eleventh Law:  The Law of Rhythm

In order to understand this law you first have to be clear on what rhythm is. Rhythm is most easily explained when using something we all know and love, music. Rhythm in music is the placement of sounds in time. In its most general sense rhythm (Greek ‘rhythmos’ derived from ‘rhein’ which means ‘to flow’) is an ordered alternation of contrasting elements. The notion of rhythm also occurs in other arts (e.g. poetry, painting, sculpture, and architecture) as well as in nature (e.g. biological rhythms).

Let’s consider poetry for a moment shall we?

Rhythm in poetry is the patterned recurrence, within a certain range of regularity, of specific language features, usually features of sound. Although difficult to define, rhythm is readily discriminated by the ear and the mind, having as it does a physiological basis. Rhythm in poetry is essential to poetry and is universally agreed to involve qualities of movement, repetition, and pattern and to arise from the poem’s nature as a temporal structure. The rhythm (which is the energy, vibration and frequency of the words used) of a beautiful poem places us in harmony with it and moves us as our vibration aligns with its intention and so we feel the poem and its message right to our very core.

In nature, rhythm is always evident to those who stop, pause and observe. The seasons, winter, spring, summer and autumn. All living things are influenced by these seasons that’s why bears hibernate in winter and birds undertake extensive migrations at the beginning of spring and again in early autumn. It is a common observation that some plants open their flowers in the morning and close them at dusk or spread their leaves in the sunlight and fold them toward the stem at night.

Nature is governed by The Law of Rhythm, known scientifically as Circadian Rhythms

As long ago as 1729 the French scientist Jean-Jacques de Marian noticed that these diurnal (daily) activities continued even when plants were kept in dim light. More recent scientific studies have shown that less obvious (visibly to us that is) activities such as photosynthesis and the rate of cell division also have regular daily rhythms which continue even when all environmental conditions are kept constant under artificial experimental conditions. These regular, approximately 24-hour natural cycles are called circadian rhythms from the Latin words ‘circa’ meaning ‘approximately’ and ‘dies’ meaning ‘a day’.

The Serengeti Wildebeest Migration reveals The Law of Rhythm

One of the most phenomenal natural spectacles, which perfectly explains the Law of Rhythm, is the great Serengeti wildebeest migration, dubbed the seventh natural wonder of the world. The great wildebeest migration is the mass movement of large numbers of wildebeest, alongside large numbers of zebra, and smaller numbers of Grant’s gazelle, Thompson’s gazelle, eland and impala. This natural phenomenon forms an annual pattern which is fairly predictable. A million plus herds of moving wild animals is an annual rhythmic cycle that attracts millions of tourist to East Africa and what this proves is just how profitable the Law of Rhythm is, especially for ecotourism in Africa!

The rains usually start in the region early November. A little while later, in late November and December, the herds of the wildebeest migration arrive on the short-grass plains of the Serengeti. Dispersed everywhere across these grassland plains are the herds of wildebeest and zebras – feeding on the fresh sprouted and nutritious lush green grass. They stay here through January, February and March, with most wildebeest calves being born during a short window around February. Steadily they spread west across the plains and then from around April they start their great migration north.

By May each year, the Serengeti migration has gained maximum momentum

By May the Serengeti’s huge herds of wildebeests all seem to be moving northwards, migrating to seek fresh grazing grass and water, joined by many zebra, and a scattering of Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelles. Around June the wildebeest migration is frequently halted on the south side of the Grumeti River, which has some channels which block or slow their migration north. The wildebeest then assemble here, in the Western Corridor, often massing up to a high density of herds before plunging into the river to get to the other side. The river here is usually a sequence of pools and channels, but it is not continuous and so many become an annual feast for the Grumeti River’s massive crocodiles.

The wildebeest migration continues moving northwards during July and August and often spreading out across an expansive front – some heading through Grumeti Reserve and others going north through the heart of the Serengeti National Park, into the Masai Mara Game Reserve, where the Mara River provides the migration with its most serious obstacle. This river flows through the northern Serengeti from Kenya’s adjacent Masai Mara Game Reserve. Watching the frantic herds of the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River can be very spectacular; there are often scenes of great panic and confusion as the massive predator crocodiles in the river wait to pounce and feed.

While in the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, the herds plough through the expanse of the area, literally occupying every space of the Masai Mara in a cyclic fashion. This continues through the month of September and October. Towards the end of October the wildebeest herds are migrating again and in unison, all are heading back southwards through the North East Serengeti, returning to the green shoots which follow the rains on the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti in November.

Our Rhythms affect how we feel and how we function

You might find it fascinating to know that medical and psychological research has shown a strong connection between poor sleep and weight gain and other undesired results in our lives. Contrary to what others might want to have you believe, you simply weren’t built to just go and go and go like an express train. What you were built for, as was every other life form, was to go, go, go and to then rest, rest, rest – there has to a balance [when you study the Law of Polarity and how it works in your life you will make the powerful connection between it and this law, again reinforcing how all the laws affect each other and are connected]. You and I evolved according to the natural rhythms of darkness and light (polar opposites) and all our bodily functions reflect this and therefore undergo similar fluctuations or rhythms. You will perform best when you understand this, embrace this and live as much as possible in accordance and harmony these rhythmic cycles.

As a result of living in tandem with the predictable patterns of day and night for thousands of years, these 24-hour cycles and rhythms became imprinted in your genes and, over time, you have developed internal body clocks that run perfectly in sync with nature. They are comprised of a variety of rhythmic patterns influencing every aspect of your bodily functions including hormone levels, digestion, body temperature and of course, sleep. So, whilst the Law of Action reminds you of the importance of taking action and ferociously so toward what you want, remember the Law of Opposites which is reminding you of the importance of rest and down time.

Now, because you understand the universal laws and more importantly, the Law of Rhythm, instead of viewing this dip as an unwanted event, as something going horribly wrong with you, you can be at complete peace knowing that this is a sign, an instruction from the universe, to rest. Once well rested, you will by law, grow to a better and higher state of physical potential. BY the way, the same applies to money…

Everything has to circulate, even money, so do not resent paying your bills!

According to the Law of Rhythm, money will flow into your life and money will flow out of your life – money after all has to circulate! So, when money flows into your life, be grateful and give thanks to Source, the universe, for this blessing. Give some of your money away with love so that you’re in harmony with the Law of Circulation, save some of your money so that you prove to the universe that you’re not a careless spendthrift and circulate some of your money so that you don’t block its natural flow. Importantly, just be at peace with money.

Similarly, when money flows out of your life, be at peace, give genuine and heartfelt thanks for your being able to help circulate money to others and be at peace, because just as money flowed into your life (high tide) and is now flowing out of your life (low tide) so will it again flow back into your life again (yet another high tide). By keeping good feelings around money and thinking and behaving in a manner which keeps you in harmony with the universal laws, the next high tide you receive won’t just be a high tide, it will be a super-high spring tide which will reward you for your conduct and most of all, your faith.

All the great teachers, the grand-masters, know how to rise above negative parts of a cycle by never getting too excited or allowing negative things to penetrate their consciousness. They know and understand that the key to success in mastering this law, is in balance; they know and understand that everything vibrates and moves to certain rhythms and that these rhythms establish seasons, cycles, stages of development, and patterns. The powerful life success lesson here is never allow your emotions to swing too far to the left or right – never get overly excited or overly depressed – just be grateful, centred and grounded as all is perfect in this universe and all is perfect with you and your journey too.

Twelfth Law:  The Law of Gender

This Universal Success Law is one that is left out of many self-help books. Maybe this is because the authors are concerned that this law might scare you off. I think, however that knowledge is power and that it is critical for you to understand it.

There are two parts to the Law of Gender:

1. The first is that there are both male and female components to all things in nature, which embodies the truth that there is gender manifested in everything.
2. The other is that all things need a gestational period.

There is not one aspect of life that the Masculine and Feminine Principles are not at work. This is true on all three planes:

1. The Physical Plane (Matter)
2. The Intellectual (Ideas)
3. The Spiritual Plane (Thoughts)

On the physical plane, the Law of Gender manifests itself with and through sex; whereas on the higher planes it takes higher intellectual and spiritual forms. Either way the principle is always the same. Know and remember this, it is impossible for creation to take place on the physical, intellectual or spiritual planes without this law because it decrees everything in nature is both male and female and that both are required for life to exist.

If you look at the above 3 points listed, they represent the creative process which most people adopt toward life, starting with physical matter (which is on the outside of you) and then working inwards through ideas and thoughts. This conventional outside-in approach to creation, is not the way of the genius, in fact in most instances those who practise it find themselves exhausted, frustrated, even exasperated, never getting what they want but sure as hell getting what they didn’t want over and over again.

The Way of the Genius is Inside-Out, not as per conventional wisdom, Outside-In

The way of the genius is always inside-out, starting with thoughts (Spirit) and then shaping these thoughts into powerful ideas (Intellectual) which through the laws and forces become matter (Physical, visible results). You must be able to see yourself with your inner eye, already in possession of the good you desire, that’s why Napoleon Hill teaches in Think and Grow Rich that “There is a difference between wishing for a thing and being ready to receive it. No one is ready for a thing, until he believes he can acquire it. The state of mind must be belief, not mere hope or wish. Open-mindedness is essential for belief.” I want you to know and remember that in terms of creation you want to be working from a higher potential (Spirit) to a lower potential (Matter), not the other way around and that ‘as you believe so shall you receive’.

As you have been working your way through my 13 Brilliant Success Laws for Entrepreneurial Women you may have already worked out that you live in a world of duality, so everything has its opposite, its ying and its yang. On the physical plane each person has a male or female physical body, however psychologically each person is androgenous with male and female qualities and we all have a left brain and right brain. The path to true enlightenment lies in balancing the male and female aspects within you as well as balancing the heavenly and earthly aspects within yourself. That’s why thought without action is useless and why the Law of Attraction will never work for and power good into your life until you tell it to do so and this definite instruction is delivered through your thoughts, feelings and deeds (Law of Action).

Patience is a virtue and if you’re impatient by nature, best you rethink your Success Strategy

What the universal law of gestation is reminding you of, is that every process needs to go through a period of time during which it is conceptualized and actualized. Even the genie who emerges from the lantern you’ve just rubbed will require a few moments to grant you your fanciful wish. Jokes aside, just think what a chaotic universe we would live in if every thought we thought immediately happened. If there was no delay your life would be a total mess, and you’d know no peace and just as you have good thoughts so you too have bad thoughts and often within milliseconds of each other. What a devastatingly confused world you’d live in were it not for your every thought not coming true!

I believe that the most important learning for you around the Law of Gender has to be associated with the universal truth that everything has a gestation period, something we often overlook, or don’t even consider in today’s world of immediate gratification. We, by nature are such impatient creatures and as technology and transportation continue to speed things up for us, we’ve become even more impatient; we want it all and we want it now!

Our World today is one of Instant Gratification, which falls foul of The Laws!

Why then are so many people so easily discouraged because the thing they want is not yet in their reality?

How many people don’t you know who give up on their most precious dreams and greatest desires because they have lost their belief about it?

Why do they do this?

The answer is a very simple one, they lost faith and they weren’t prepared to wait. That’s right, all good things come to those who wait. Waiting can be difficult, sometimes even painful, but it is necessary because the wait allows what you want (your desire, the spiritual seed which you fashioned in the workshop of your mind) to become a thing, to come to fruition!

I love gardening and planting vegetables, so when I do, I look at the seed packet and it always tells you to allow for so many days before the seedlings will begin to emerge. I prepare the soil, sow the seeds, water them, care for them, I even talk to them and love them – that’s all I do and just as per what the packet said, the seeds germinate and much to my delight, break through the surface of the soil. What was so difficult about all that? Absolutely nothing! I got clear on what I wanted to reap, made the decision, took action and did the work required by preparing the soil and planting the seeds, where after, I peacefully and expectantly waited for the seeds to germinate.

On one hand, your entitlement is a good thing as it demonstrates to you that you believe you can be, do and have whatever you want. That is a vital ingredient in achieving your desires and this ingredient is the miracle working word ‘belief’. As you believe so shall you receive!

Let’s consider the miraculous process of germination shall we?

Seed Germination is the process where the seed sprouts for growing and developing into a plant. The seeds that germinate have an embryo inside it that grows into a new plant and the process of germination starts with the seed absorbing water which activates an enzyme that increases respiration. The plant cells divide rapidly, the embryo inside the seed becomes large and the radical (first root) of the plant emerges from the seed coat. Various internal and external factors affect the seed germination. The internal factors include seed vitality, genotype, seed maturation etc. and some of the most important external factors affecting germination process are water, oxygen and light.

The presence of the water is very crucial for the germinating process as most seeds are very dry and need water for its growth, plus all the amazing cellular metabolic process occurring in the seed require water. Oxygen is required for the metabolism occurring in the germinating seed, which releases energy to be utilised by the seedling until the leaves appear. The seedling gets the oxygen from the atmosphere that is present in the soil pores. Most seeds generally do not get affected by the light or darkness for germination, however light is essential in the later stage of the plant life cycle as it powers photosynthesis.

Every living thing is always moving Into From, Through Form and Out of Form, that’s the Law!

What I’m attempting to sensitize you to is that this natural process is no different to that which your idea will experience around its own unique creative manifestation process from Spirit (thought) into Form (matter). Your idea, your desire will be supported by the infinitely rich and plentiful resources of the universe from the moment you release it to the universe and call it into existence through a powerful supportive, thankful prayer. Your idea will then be nourished (water, oxygen, light) as long as you keep pouring thoughts and actions of love, expectation and gratitude into it.

Why then do you make the effort to create beautiful, powerful, HDD pictures of what you want, charge them full of powerful results attracting emotions and launch them by doing the internal work required, only to then dig them up and destroy them before they could germinate merely because you lacked faith and the ability to wait?

So what’s the paradigm busting life lesson this law is teaching you?

When you have a dream, goal, idea, hope, wish or desire, you have to behave as loving farmer would. You have to take your precious seed (your desire) and boldly plant it in the nutrient rich soils of the universe. You then hand it over to the unseen forces, knowing full well that as long as you keep the faith, believe, keep feeling good about it and expect it to happen, it will. That’s it. That’s all. You have to leave it alone now and resist your powerful urges to constantly check on it. The only thing between what you want and receiving it, is you, and the more you get in the way the more you are slowing everything down!

Thirteenth Law:  The Law of Shared Purpose

When two or more people of similar vibration are gathered for a shared purpose, their combined energy directed to the attainment of that purpose is doubled, tripled, quadrupled or more. This esoteric awareness has been used by covens, esoteric religions, healing groups, and recently, worldwide meditations for world peace.

Masterminding unleashes collective genius and enables the Law of Share Purpose. Masterminding is a group of people coming together where there is a common situation that they want to accomplish, a goal, a challenge that they want to overcome. Masterminding requires an open mind. You release yourself to the Mastermind and the longer you work with a Mastermind, the more powerful it becomes. Masterminding unleashes collective genius – it’s so much easier when you have a whole group of people working at really helping you.

The accumulation of Great Wealth and Power requires Master Minding

Napoleon Hill who was first introduced to Masterminding by Andrew Carnegie, writes in Think and Grow Rich that “Every person who manages a business or a department of a business knows what a difficult matter it is to get employees to work together in a spirit even remotely resembling harmony. When two or more people coordinate in a spirit of harmony, and work toward a definite objective, they place themselves in a position through that alliance to absorb power from the great universal storehouse of Infinite Intelligence. It is a source to which the genius turns. It is the source to which every leader turns. It is the benefit which comes to all who Mastermind following the Mastermind principles. Great power and great wealth can be accumulated through no other principle.”

A perfect example of the power of Masterminding is Mahatma Ghandi; probably the most powerful man of his generation; some might even consider him the most powerful man who has ever lived. His power was passive, but it was real.

So, how did he come to power?

Through inducing over 200 million people to coordinate, with mind and body, in a spirit of harmony for a definite purpose. What Ghandi accomplished is nothing short of a miracle, because it is a miracle when 200 million people can be induced (not forced) to cooperate in a harmonious spirit.

1. Give / Receive. You’ll be part of an exclusive community. Joining a Mastermind typically involves you being invited by the members or going through an application process. The other members need you just as much as you need them, so quality of experience and knowledge is crucial to all involved and as you give so shall you receive.
2. Connectedness. Once you are involved in a Mastermind, that feeling of being alone while running your business is gone. The other members of the group turn into business advisors of sorts and vice versa.
